Your homepage heading structure is one of the most important on-page SEO decisions you will make. Headings tell Google what your clinic offers and where, and help patients scan your content quickly when they arrive. This guide walks you through how to create the correct heading structure on your homepage so it is set up to perform well in local search.

Before you start

You will need Admin access to Jane Websites to make these changes. Always follow the H1 to H2 to H3 order, so you should never skip levels, and never use more than one H1 on the page.

How to Set Your Homepage H1

Your H1 is the single most important on-page SEO signal on your homepage. It should include your primary service category and your location so Google knows exactly what your clinic offers and where.

  1. Once you're logged in to Jane Websites, navigate to your homepage and click the Customize Header button on the hero block at the top of the page.
  2. Scroll till you reach the Override Heading field and set your H1 using this formula:
    [Service or Specialty] in [Location].
For example: "Physiotherapy & Sports Medicine in North Vancouver" or “Compassionate Mental Health Care in Downtown Toronto.”
  3. Scroll till you reach the Override Subheading field. This Subheading field is regarded as an H2 and is an expansion of the H1 above it. Make sure the H2 here is broad, clear, and benefit-driven. Learn more about H2s in the next section.
For example: ‘Expert care for injuries, pain, and rehabilitation’.
  4. Click the Save Custom Header button to save your progress.

How to Set Your Homepage H2s

Your H2s organize the major sections of your homepage and help both patients and Google understand what each section covers.

  1. Navigate to your homepage and click the Pencil Icon on each block you want to update.
  2. In this block, the Heading section is considered an H2. If this block is a services overview section, set your H2 to something like "Our Services" or "What We Treat."
If this block is a credentials or why-choose-us section, set your H2 to something like "Why Choose [Clinic Name]" or “Our Approach to Care.”
If this block is a team introduction section, use something like “Meet Our Team”.
If this block is a location and accessibility section, use something like "Find Us" or "Visit Our Clinic."
  3. Once you've made those changes, click the Save Block button to save your progress.

How to Set Your Homepage H3s

Your H3s break down the subsections within each H2 and give Google additional signals about the specific content on your page.

  1. Navigate to your homepage and click the Pencil Icon on each section block you want to update.
  2. If you have an block that gives services overview H2, set an H3 (Subheading) for each individual service category you list. For example: "Physiotherapy," "Registered Massage Therapy," and “Acupuncture.”
If you have a block that gives a team introduction H2, set an H3 for each practitioner you feature on the homepage, if applicable.
  3. Never jump from H1 to H3. Always move through heading levels in order.
  4. Once you've made those changes, click the Save Block button to save your progress.

You're all set! Your homepage now has a clear heading structure that helps Google understand your clinic and helps patients find what they need quickly. A strong H1, organized H2s, and descriptive H3s are the foundation of good on-page SEO, and yours is now in place.

Note

Never use more than one H1 on your homepage. If you find yourself wanting to add a second H1, use an H2 instead. Multiple H1s on a single page confuse both Google and the patients reading your content.
